After releasing my first set of pipe organ pieces in 2024 I’m now releasing a second volume. In 2023, when I recorded the first volume, I was exploring the awesome pipe organ emulations by the Virtual Organ Company together with the sound sculpting tools developed by Groupe de Recherches Musicals in Paris.
Now, two years later, I returned to the pipe organ, this time trying to turn the French baroque organ into a drone instrument. As always with my atmospheric sound pieces there is also a story they are telling. The titles of the pieces are hinting towards those stories. But ultimately the listener has to tell them to himself.
Recorded on L’Orgue Couperin, January to March 2025.

même violence, même pâleur / même fragilité
First there was Josephine Damar’s même violence, même pâleur, a piece originally produced for a video, but then published on Bandcamp as a track on its own right. Josephine’s piece had such a profound impact on me that I felt the strong impulse to react musically. The piece I produced developed from a radical remix to some kind of continuation or supplement of the original: même fragilité. You will get the best experience when you listen first to Josephine’s piece and than to mine without a gap.
Josephine Damar is the experimental music project of a young violinist and ethnomusicologist form Madrid, Spain, currently based in Vienna. Check out her Bandcamp: Josephine Damar

Notes are field recordings annotated with and sometimes transformed into music. The field recordings have been made over the last few month in two places in Vienna. One place is at home in my bedroom with the window open at night. The other place is the park nearby, also at night. These field recordings are intimate notes taken of my close surroundings, the people I am surrounded by and the sounds and noises they used to make. These noises may be annoying, but listening to them often results in a strong feeling of connectedness with people I don’t even know and don’t even understand. These many languages I don’t understand do sound very beautiful, when I listen to their rhythm, melody and sound. It is such a treasure to have all these diverse languages here in Vienna. My Notes, therefore, try to capture the beauty of diversity I sound and to document my musical reactions to these sounds and noises. I tried to enhance the beauty I experienced recording my diverse environment. In this sense, Notes are also to be understood as a political statement against the xenophobia and the hate of the right.

Two ambient/drone longform pieces for the end of the year and one for the new one. The two tracks should be listened to subsequently in the order of the album to experience them as parts of one composition. The third track is kind of a reaction to the surreal political situation in 2025 and the passing of David Lynch. It is what I like to call radical ambient, ambient which is not escapism, but a reaction of radical love to a culture of hate. Please listen with headphones or good speakers.
Composed and recorded in December 2024 and January 2025.

The Psychology of Introspection
The psychology of Introspection is necessarily a psychology of perception, because there is no Introspection without perception of the environment. There is a dialectic of the perception of the inner self and the perception of the outside world and this dialectic is what Introspection can explore. Introspection, thus, is always a response to the outside world, to the environment by looking into ourselves. But what does ‘looking into ourselves’ mean? What does ‘ourselves’ mean? The self is not a monad, but rather an interface, an interface transporting, transforming, translating into both directions. Perception is Introspection and Introspection is perception through this interface. The self is a process. The self is transition. The self is fluid.

The Vienna Trilogy represents the experience of a world moving towards catastrophe mixed with the experience of starting a new phase of life and moving to a city of mythologized well-being. Accordingly, the three pieces describe a journey from the cheerful feelings of arrival to the confrontation with war, war crimes and trauma while working with migrants and refugees in my day job to the experience of the often harsh reality of the big city with poverty and abandonment. Through the extensive use of field recordings recorded in Vienna and their electronic amplification and distortion, the mythical euphony of Vienna is deconstructed. The real can be experienced by listening to the distorted.

Streetcars do dream-work is based on hauntological field recording research done on several trams in Vienna in the winter of 2023. These recordings are the material for the musical dream-work on this album, switching between and mixing the manifest and the latent content of the dream.

The pipe organ is an instrument I’ve always been fascinated by. Recently I started to explore several types of organs for minimalist dronelike pieces of music. Because I didn’t have the opportunity to travel to all these organs I am using the awesome virtual organs of the Virtual Organ Company. I tried to write music for the particular sound and sound possibilities of different pipe organs. In some cases I used electronics to shape the sound of the organ, tools developed by Groupe de Recherches Musicales in Paris originally for musique concrète and sound design.

The swelling of a tone or sound can be described as a rise in volume. The swell is a mechanical device that makes it possible to swell or dampen the sound when playing an organ. Both not only change the volume, but also the timbre. Accordingly, this piece is not so much about raising the volume itself, but rather about changing the sound in the process. Only two pitches are used in a low and in a high register: B and B-flat. Only by continuously increasing the volume does the timbre change continuously. The exploration of sound and its movements in space is the subject of this piece for organ with swell.

It’s Getting Dark: Variations on a Single Note (B)
Organ piece inspired by Scene 2 (Invention on a Single Note (B)) of Alban Berg’s opera Wozzeck: Wozzeck and Marie – Forest path by the pond. It’s getting dark. Wozzeck kills Marie. Realized with Opus V by the Virtual Organ Company, This organ is based on 16th century Italian organ of which an example with the same disposition can be found in the Silberne Kapelle in Hofkirche Innsbruck, Austria.

Pedal Points and Spaces

The Dark and the Rugged is a degradation drone. Waves of noise are rising and fading back into silence. Then percussive sounds emerge in irregular patterns as the drone is moving into territories of degradation. Right from the start of the piece silences are as important as sounds, timbres are more essential than pitches.

Transition States
Transition States is an album exploring several scientific principles and forces important in chemistry and biology by means of music. The core principles used as compositional tools are transition and equilibrium, i.e. dynamics and stasis. The music of the album is oscillating between these opposite principles until it gradually finds a rest in equilibrium. Each track is inspired by a specific chemical or physical concept.
Released March 5, 2021.

Drones for Winds and Strings
The three drone pieces on Drones for Winds and Strings each feature one sampled orchestral instrument, the oboe, the trombone and the viola. In the first piece, Oboes ad Infinitum, the drone emerges from single electroacoustically processed oboe tones. In number two, Towards Trombones, field recordings gradually transform into trombone sounds. In the last piece, Strings (Viola Drone), viola sounds are processed electronically into a shimmering drone.
Released September 4, 2020.

Piano Songs
In this cycle of eight pieces I explore different ways of minimalist improvisational piano playing limiting myself to elemental musical techniques like the repetition of a single pitch, building a melody, repetition of a chord, and clusters. Then I manipulate the gained musical elements electronically in order to sustain the piano sounds and to change their timbre. I call these pieces songs, because they all have some kind of loose song structure, but they are not songs in the strict sense of the term.
All songs were composed and recorded in March and April 2020.
Released April 23, 2020.

Spectres of the Sublime
Four pieces of musical hauntology without memory, that is without sampling of cultural sources of the past. An uncanny atmosphere of haunting memories is created through processed field recordings and synthesised sounds. The four pieces are: Undergrowth, Plant, Far, and Abyss. Written and recorded in 2017.
Released December 15, 2018

Exercises in Minimalism
Simple piano motives and chords layered above each other, extended, delayed, in slow variation. Some harmonic overtones derived from an old upright piano, isolate and layered to feed a piano drone. And a simple motive played and repeated: Exercises in Minimalism.
Released January 10, 2018.

And then he disappeared
This album might be called a live album, but it is a “live” album under lockdown conditions. Both tracks have been recorded “live”, which means in one take without any overdubs. Both tracks have been presented at the online event “Under Szubcult”, track one on June 10 and track two on August 7 in 2021. The two tracks together tell a mysterious story about disappearance with field recordings and samples which are manipulated with live electronics.
Released August 5, 2021.

Tender Objects
The book Tender Buttons from 1914 is probably the most innovative work of Gertrude Stein. In this book she tries to bring together the world before her and her language, but both, the world and the language are in process, everything moves. This mode of perception destabilises the normative and hierarchical order of language, of syntax and signification. The texts in Tender Buttons, however, are not sound poetry, although through their visceral sonic qualities they seem to demand recitation. They are not word-music, although the loosened tie of grammar and syntax generates a certain rhythmic quality. Transgressing the paradigm of the sentence, Stein still writes sentences. Transgressing the paradigms of narration and description Stein still creates texts. Transgressing the paradigm of text, Stein’s texts in Tender Buttons promise to be music, but because they are still texts with words and sentences, they at the same time lack music. The unfulfilled promise of music trigger a strong desire for music. My Tender Objects, 5 Songs after Gertrude Stein succumb to this desire.

Stranger Fading
I got to know Chubby Wolf’s music by chance only in 2017, but it had an unexpected impact on me and my understanding and appreciation of ambient music. This impact was so deep that I finally began to publish my own music.
Chubby Wolf was the moniker of Danielle Baquet-Long, under which she published her solo music. She was one half of the ambient project Celer with her husband Will Long. Tragically she died of heart failure on July 8, 2009.
This album is my tribute to her.
Released July 8, 2017.
