Red Cut

Josephine Damar: violin

Karl Katschthaler: modular synthesiser, electronics and field recordings

Red Cut is a collaborative project featuring Josephine Damar and Karl Katschthaler. The duo is founded on a shared dedication to improvisation and experimental music.

Josephine contributes her classical violin skills and a spirit of exploration. Karl’s background encompasses musique concrète, electroacoustic music, drone, and ambient styles.

Both artists share a profound appreciation for the improvisational process, fostering a deep level of communication. The project reflects a mutual journey of rediscovering improvisation after their classical training.

Their approach to music embraces the acousmatic experience, often listening with closed eyes. However, Red Cut also embrace the visual aspect of their performances, incorporating instruments and various objects.
