Streetcars do dream-work (new release)

Since I have re-loacated to Vienna in September last year, I used to travel a lot across the town on trams listening to the sounds they produce as they make their ways through the city and the sounds the passengers produce on the trams or their various silences. This is often a weird experience of dreamlike situations and I feel close to the dreams and nightmares surrounding me in the urban environment. Field recording itself gets close to doing dream-work, but the work really begins when I start to work with these field recordings in a musical context. This work is about manifest and latent contents of dreams in a Freudian sense. The field recordings in their raw form are like the manifest content of the dreams, the sounds and music they produce in differently shaped generative environments are like the latent content of the dreams and nightmares. Additionally I play the role of the analyst by ‘commentig’ on these sounds by adding synth parts and acoustically produced sounds to the soundscape. Field recording and composition using field recordings gets close to hauntological research in an urban environment.

The result are four tracks you can listen to and downloade for free on Bandcamp:
